Over the decades ARAI has developed a network of Departments and Laboratories with capabilities that encompass the entire spectrum of automotive engineering areas including Active and Passive Safety, Automotive Electronics, Engineering Design & Simulation, Emissions, Certification & Homologation, Materials & Manufacturing, Noise Vibration & Harshness, Engine Development Lab (EDL), Structural Dynamics, Vehicle Evaluation, Calibration etc.

Commensurate with capabilities these departments and laboratories are well equipped with state of the art facilities and infrastructure that is spread over 3 locations in and around Pune.

To keep itself at the forefront of technologies, ARAI continuously upgrades its facilities. Major expansion and up gradation was carried out under National Automotive Testing, R&D and Infrastructural Project (NATRiP) at ARAI-HTC in the areas of Passive Safety, Powertrain, Fatigue & Material and Transmission and Gear Testing. ARAI is also establishing a comprehensive infrastructure and facilities for testing, certification and development of the electric and hybrid vehicles under the FAME scheme of GoI at its E-Mobility Centre of Excellence.
